New for Summer 2020

What is a Nestling? It's a baby penguin AND the new name of the pre-team program at Little Falls. It's an amalgamation of the old pre/developmental teams and it will be run by our assistant coaching staff and qualified team swimmers.

The Nestling program is designed for swimmers who have not yet learned the strokes but are confident in the water. In order to be a Nestling swimmers must be able to comfortably make their way across the pool (floating, crawling, or kicking with a board) unassisted and without showing signs of distress (such as crying or refusing to get in the water).  They should be able to place their face in the water and blow bubbles and be able to tread water.

If he/she is not yet at this level, Little Falls has a number of experienced and knowledgeable swimmers who give private lessons throughout the summer. The Nestling program is not designed to take the place of swimming lessons; supplementing the Nestling experience with swimming lessons will more rapidly improve a beginning swimmer’s skills. We have two goals for our Nestlings: 1) by the end of the season our Nestlings will be Penguin-ready; and 2) for these young swimmers to associate swimming with FUN!

Practices will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00 to 4:30.  We will hold evaluations during the first week of practice, which begins on May 26. Each child will be observed by our swim coaches to determine the proper placement.   The Nestlings are highly encouraged to attend Friday pep-rallies with the swim team and to come cheer for the Penguins at Saturday home meets.  The Nestling season will culminate with a fun meet and awards night on July 15.  Any questions about the Nestling program should be directed to
